Projects
Work has begun to prioritize Nature Force project opportunities based on the level of community risk and the feasibility of delivering climate change resilience and overall ecological benefits in BC, Ontario, and Quebec.
Existing operations and relationships in these areas held by our conservation partner will aid in expediting this process.
Phase 1 priorities
Projects are being planned in urban adjacent areas and upstream watersheds across the Fraser River Delta in British Columbia as well as southern Ontario and Quebec with a prioritization on flood risk mitigation for the most populous communities.
Planning meetings are being organized to gain community and municipal support and form partnerships to expedite the delivery of natural infrastructure projects in the 3 targeted regions
Sturgeon Bank Sediment Enhancement Pilot Project
Led by Ducks Unlimited Canada, this pilot project aims to restore tidal marsh habitat and enhancing marsh resilience in the face of sea-level rise. Since 1986 at least 160 hectares of the marsh at Sturgeon Bank has died and been converted into mudflats. That is at least 30% of the Sturgeon Bank’s original recorded 543 hectares in 1986 that has now disappeared.
Mud Bay Nature-based Foreshore Enhancements
Led by the City of Surrey, the City of Delta and Semiahmoo First Nation, this pilot project will help protect Surrey’s residents, farms, critical infrastructure including Highway 99, BNSF Railway, regional power and sewer lines, and internationally recognized bird and wildlife habitats from sea level rise through the use of a living dike.
